Advent Day Sixteen
By Pastor Brent Deakins
Jesus’ states clearly in Matthew 11:28-30 that He wants to carry our burdens.
“Come unto Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from ME, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Is your soul heavy? I am not wondering if you just need a nap. There is a deeper burden that we carry when we carry the weight of responsibility for our families, homes, churches, ministries, finances, world problems, etc. But we were not meant to carry these alone.
The KEY idea of Steward Leadership is that we are not the owners- we just steward the owners’ resources. We don’t have to carry the burden of responsibility for all the outcomes and situations that are happening in the world. The real question is- who is the owner? If we claim ownership and want to have the deed of ownership of the above responsibilities, then it is natural we will carry a heavy load.
However, if we can change our perspective and mindset and see ourselves simply as STEWARDS of all the blessings God has given us, then Jesus comes to offer to carry the load with us. His burden is light. His yoke is easy.
Maybe today you feel weighted down in an impossible situation with more responsibility than you can carry on your own. Ask yourself- Whose ministry is this anyways? Whose family is this? Whose child is this? Whose business is this? Do I really want to be the owner? Or can I trust God to allow me to STEWARD what He owns and give it back to him to carry? Maybe that will lighten the load for your soul today. But it is still good to take a nap!
